Letter to the editor

On behalf of the City of Wetaskiwin, I would like to congratulate Dorothy French on receiving the AUMA Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her more than 20 years of service on Wetaskiwin’s City Council.

Dorothy’s 17 years as an alderman, combined with her term as Mayor from 1989 -1992, were marked by foresight and initiative, and benefited the community in many ways. The Wetaskiwin Ashoro Friendship Society continues to thrive, giving students the wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese culture first hand, and help to shape their perspective of the world.

Our city’s urban park system and excellent hospital and care centre are testaments to Dorothy’s vision and determination, as was the honour of hosting the 1993 Alberta Summer Games in Wetaskiwin.

Dorothy’s dedication, sincerity and graciousness are a tribute to the City of Wetaskiwin.  We consider this award to represent the respect and admiration of the community as a whole.

Sincerely,
Bill Elliot
