Testing the Waters Forced Revised
Earlier in the summer options for the future of the Wetaskiwin Aquatic Centre were presented with Option #3 being: Construct a New Wetaskiwin Regional Aquatics Centre. The estimated cost is $18.5M but with approximately $10.6M already designated and committed to the project, the outstanding balance is $7.2M.
The City went on to admit that these numbers are the best estimates they can provide with the information they had available but were very emphatic that the numbers presented are on the conservative (safe) side.
Also earlier this year, Wetaskiwin City Council approved plans to move into the detailed design phase, to see the project through to a point where tenders can be issued and a sponsorship plan developed in anticipation of a final decision. The tenders for the proposed Regional Aquatic Centre were received on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from Five (5) pre‐qualified contractors for the project.
The tenders have since been reviewed and adjusted to reflect the credits and options that were identified by the contractors within tender documents. The adjusted bid results are listed below. Two bid prices are provided by each of the contractors; the first shows a tender with ‘Second Floor Included’ and the second without a second floor, or ‘Second Floor Excluded’.
The City requested tender prices be provided showing the addition of a second floor which would diversify recreation activities. The revised tenders are as follows.
