Norwood Playground Dedication

Students and WRPS Trustee Ed Zacharko and Parent Council Chair Kim Stashko ready to cut the ribbon to officially open the new playground at Norwood Elementary School in Wetaskiwin.

The official opening of the new playground at Norwood Elementary School in Wetaskiwin was the successful culmination of five years of hard work and planning by the school's Parent Council.  The biggest job was fundraising, with the many fabulous volunteers working on a wide variety of projects from dances and auctions to the various sales of baking, sausages and chocolates, to helping with a casino, and approaching local service groups for assistance.  The Parents Council and the school greatly appreciate every bit of help by every volunteer.  Special appreciation goes to Roger Schmuland who contributed his excavation work for the playground.   A Community Enhancement Facilities Grant from the provincial government is also greatly appreciated.
When the time arrived for the official opening, children were gathered in a long line to hold a bright red ribbon which was cut in the middle by Wetaskiwin Regional School Trustee Ed Zacharko and Parent Council Chair Kim Stashko.  A number of parents, students, teachers and staff had gathered for this special moment to celebrate the completion of this special effort, and to look forward to the years of healthy fun activity which the playground will provide.
The playground itself has a Fibre base, which makes it wheelchair accessible, which is of special value  to students in wheelchairs who attend the Learning Assistance Program.  It has an interesting range of safe and challenging activities, and has been well used by the children of the community over the summer.  It is a great asset to both the school and the community.
Congratulations to the Norwood Elementary School Parent Council and to the school!
