In the inaugural year of its Community Naturalization Grant program, FortisAlberta presented the Town of Millet with a $3,000 cheque to fund the Town’s project to install new litter and recycling stations in their parks and trail system.
The Town of Millet was one of four grant recipients chosen out of 41 submissions sent in from communities throughout FortisAlberta’s service territory.
“As members of the communities we serve, we look for opportunities like this to support events and projects that align with our business priorities of safety, education and the environment,” says Rick Burden, Stakeholder Relations Manager. “Millet’s project clearly demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the local environment and we are excited to help bring that to fruition.”
The $3,000 will be used to purchase and install six metal litter and recycling stations along the walking trails beside Eyot Creek. The new receptacles will help keep this high-traffic trail clean and encourage people to recycle.
Grant application forms were sent to municipalities within FortisAlberta’s service territory in June 2012 with a July 31 deadline for submissions. Submissions needed to include a brief description of the project, how the funds would be allocated, the benefits of the project to the community, and any supporting photos.
