Holiday Check Stop Nets Calgary Man Drug Charge

On December 31st, 2010 at approximately 9:35 p.m., The Leduc RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit was conducting a Check stop on Hwy 2A near 50th Street in Leduc. A vehicle that had exited onto Highway 2A from the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) southbound was attempting to avoid police by executing a U turn prior to reaching the check stop location.
Leduc RCMP pulled the vehicle over on Highway 2A and Range Road 251. After further investigation, Leduc RCMP found the male driver who was the sole occupant in the vehicle to be in possession of what is believed to be Marihuana in excess of 30 grams.
The male was arrested and taken into police custody.
A 28 yr old male from Calgary, AB is facing the following charge:
1. Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marihuana in Excess of 30 grams).
The male was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court on February 3rd, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
The name of the male is not being released at this time as the information has not been sworn.
