BOOTING UP

Leduc Fire Services want everyone to be aware that they are once again willing to brave old man winter in order to help others. For the fourth year in a row from February 4-7, four Leduc firefighters will be camping out on the roof of the Protective Services Building in an attempt to raise $30,000.00 to help find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.
The lucky campers for 2014 are Firefighters Jay Cavanagh, Leah Bender, Dustin Kavanagh and Keltie-May Nicoll. The reason the term "lucky" is used is because this has become such a popular event at the Leduc Firehall that names have to be drawn out of a hat at Christmastime to determine who the four on the roof will be in the coming year.
The entire four days will be broadcast live via a webcam and viewing will be made available through the Leduc City website.
This has become an incredibly popular event for Leduc residents as well with several local groups such as the Boys and Girls Club who bring treats up to the cold campers every year and several families make a special trip down to the Firehall just to make a donation during this campaign.
Over the last three years Leduc has raised over $95,000.00 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada from this rooftop campaign.
“Every year this campaign exceeds expectations and on behalf of the City of Leduc Fire Services team, I want to say how proud we are of our firefighters and their commitment,” says Fire Chief Ernie Polsom. “Leduc and area residents are extremely generous in their support of our campaign to help the thousands of Canadians affected by neuromuscular disorders as we seek a cure.”
During the campaign donations can be made by dropping cash or a cheque into a boot held by more firefighters who will be stationed in the meridian in front of the Protective Services Building located at 4119 - 50 St. in Leduc, or by phone at 780-980-7275 during regular business hours,
