Millet Scouts Celebrate Founders Day

February 22 is Founders Day, the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, a Boer War hero founded International Scouting in 1907. Today Scouts Canada has over 100,000 members nationwide. Founders Day is traditionally a day when members of Scouting re-affirm the Scout Promise.
Baden-Powell goals in Scouting are easily summed through the organizations vision and mission statements. These goals are as relevant today as they were in the beginning of the Scout movement. Using the mentorship of its Leaders, Scouts provide a variety of activities including the traditional outdoor skills long associated with scouting to encourage growth and self-sufficiency.
Vision - Canadian Youth making a meaningful contribution to creating a better world. Mission - To help develop well rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
The focus on helping to develop youth who will go on to become successful adults and make a positive influence in the world around them is clearly seen and reflected in the Scout Law :1) A Scout is to be trusted 2)A Scout is loyal 3)A Scout is friendly and considerate 4)A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts 5) A Scout has courage in all difficulties 6) A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property 7) A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
Scouting has been positive influence for youth and the community for generations. Unfortunately Millet has seen their number of Scouts dwindle in recent years. Millet is in need of more Scouts and Leaders, it would be a shame to lose the Scouts with the activities and opportunities it provides for the youth in our community.
If Scouting sounds like something your son or daughter would be interested in (yes, Scouts are co – ed now) or if you’re interested in being a Leader please contact Donna Mae at 780-387-4441 or Glendelynn at 780-905-8751 or glendelynn70@gmail.com
On February 25, 6:30-7:30 the Millet Scouts will be holding a potluck supper to celebrate Robert Baden- Powell’s birthday. The Scout Hall is located at 5019-52 street Millet. Anyone interested in finding out more about Scouting is welcome to drop by.
