Remember When?

The Wetaskiwin Agricultural Society held its 16th Annual Cutter Rally on Sunday, February 16th at the Agricultural Society grounds. There were 14 rigs in the rally this year. The cold weather on weekends has reduced the numbers of rigs attending rallies, and led to the cancellation of the Lacombe and Rimbey rallies.
The Wetaskiwin rally was held on one of the warmer days, but the wind made it feel surprisingly chilly. Alfred Tauber, who has been the main organizer for the rally for years, wanted everyone to know that Jim Wilson did most of the work this year while Alfred was ill. Special to the rally this year was a six-horse hitch that was beautifully matched and handled very well.
As always, the horses performed admirably, the bells were jingling, the drivers and their companions were joyful. Think of the good old winter song "Jingle Bells." There may have been fewer rigs in the rally, but it still provided an opportunity to get together, compare notes and enjoy lunch with each other and interested friends.
As usual, there were door prizes for all the rigs. The prizes were chosen in the order that the rig numbers were drawn. There was also a 50-50 draw. Sponsors this year were Henry Helfrich, Wetaskiwin Co-Op, Peavey Mart, Kimto Manufacturing, Dart Electric, B P Plywood, Signs and Graphics by Foss, Smitty's Family Restaurant, Huckleberry's Cafe, Jim Wilson, Ed and Donna Bruebaker, Alfred Tauber, Joyce Winters, Jim, and Cloverbar Carriages. A number of them have been faithful supporters for many years. The Cutter Rallies are important in providing a contact point and communal setting for those continuing with this aspect of horsemanship. Besides, they're fun!

This year as an added bonus we have provided a video of the event.
