Knights of Columbus supports Victim Services every year

“Oh, we give Victims Services every year” proudly claimed Tony Greenidge on behalf of the Knights of Columbus. “We believe Victim Services is one of the organizations that deserves what we give them for what they do as they protect the people in our community. We make money and give it to the needy.  Our organization has donated approximately $16,000 to the community so far this year.”

Chaotic and overwhelming are often how the aftermath of a crime, natural disaster, accident or emergency can seem to a victim. Family, friends and even those who witnessed the event, can feel the impact in the same way. It is no secret that crime has a destructive influence upon our society. This influence can be even more devastating when the crime is personal.

To a victim of crime, the demoralizing consequences can remain evident for days, weeks, months or even years after the event.

In response to the needs of victims, the Wetaskiwin Municipal RCMP and Rural RCMP, in partnership with the Wetaskiwin and District Victim Services Society developed this Victim Services Unit.

Victim Services Board member Sarah Cornelssen, ME working at the RCMP detachment and being a member of the Victim Services Board of Directors, says she is committed to Victim Services. “I get to see both angles. I get to see how the RCMP responds to victims, while working hand in hand with our Victim Service Advocates. I believe it reassures victims that they are not alone and the RCMP and Victim Services are a very strong team. It is great to see that the community supports Victim Services and on behalf of the Victim Services Board, I would like to send out a big thanks to the Knights of Columbus and all our other corporate sponsors that enable us to provide in many cases, life-changing services. Our services are provided by a team of well-trained volunteer advocates available on a 24 hour basis and are free and confidential.”

Victim Services  serves the same area as the Wetaskiwin RCMP Municipal and Rural Detachments. This includes City of Wetaskiwin, County of Wetaskiwin up to Battle Lake, Town of Millet, and the summer villages on the south side of Pigeon Lake. If you are the victim of crime, natural disaster, accident or emergency please feel free to call Victim Services 24/7 at 780-312-7287 for assistance.
