The December 14, 2016 board highlights have been posted to the Black Gold Regional Division website at Division News - Board Highlights.

The board highlights are a summary of our Board of Education meetings to communicate pertinent information to our staff, school councils, parents, students and stakeholders. To be environmentally friendly, paper copies will no longer be provided to the schools and school council chairs. The Board of Education minutes are also posted to our division website (http://www.blackgold.ca).

Draft 2017-18 school year calendar

The board directed administration to release the proposed 2017‐2018 school year calendar to be distributed for feedback. Consolidated feedback from Black Gold Regional Schools and school councils is to be submitted by January 13, 2017 via Google form.

École J.E. Lapointe School modernization

Black Gold Regional Division No. 18 (BGRD) is growing in student population and very fortunate to have new schools being built, and modernizations occurring in some of its schools. Associate Superintendent Monty presented the press release that will be released for the modernization of École J.E. Lapointe School. The Five Reasons to Celebrate press release outlines the construction plan and modernization highlights.

Celebrating success

Congratulations to Mikayla Ryll for receiving the Prix Avenir Prometeur Award from the University of Alberta, Campus Saint Jean. Mikayla was recognized for her contributions as an alumnus for promoting the Bachelor of Education Program at Campus Saint Jean. Mikayla currently teaches Grade 6 French Immersion at École Dansereau Meadows School.

Skills exploration days

Superintendent Yanitski and Trustee Eilander attended the Skills Exploration Days on December 8 at Northlands Edmonton. The skills exploration now involves students from Grades 7 to 9.

Quebec field trip

The board gave approval in principle to the field trip request from École Bellevue School. The field trip is to Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa from June 23 to 29, 2017 for 18 Grade 6 students with one teacher supervisor and parent chaperones.

School visits

Trustees and Superintendent Yanitski attended school visits on December 1st to: New Sarepta Elementary, New Sarepta Community High and Leduc Composite High Schools. Trustees thanked all the schools that hosted the visits. Trustees enjoy the school visits and were impressed with the tour guides.
