Submitted by W&CSHOF
This year an outstanding group will be inducted into the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame.
This group includes Charleen (Cole) Brown, an accomplished fastball player in the Athlete category; Justine Bouchard in the Athlete category for her world-wide achievements in the sport of wrestling; Chuck Hebert in the Builder category for his exceptional contributions coaching five different sports at Wetaskiwin Composite High School and at the community level as well as developing community programs; George Hunnerfauth in the Builder category for his efforts with the Wetaskiwin North-Am International Snowmobile Race; the 1977 Wetaskiwin Legion Bantam fastball team and the 1979 Wetaskiwin Sport Shop Midget fastball team for their outstanding accomplishments of winning both the Provincial and Western Canadian Championships.
This will be the 12th induction ceremony in the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame’s history. The Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2006 and to date has inducted 72 athletes, builders and teams. If you actually counted all of the teams’ members it would be over 300 individuals.
The Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame is helping to preserve Wetaskiwin’s sporting history for future generations. Pictures of those who have been inducted since 2006 are proudly displayed in the Wetaskiwin arena. Information on each of the previous inductees can be found on the Wetaskiwin and County Sports Hall of Fame website on the internet at www.wetaskiwnsportsfame.com.
The 2016 Induction Dinner will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Best Western Wayside Inn banquet room in Wetaskiwin. Invitations are open to everyone and banquet tickets are available for purchase at the Wetaskiwin Encompass Credit Union. The deadline for purchasing tickets will be March 17, 2017.
