With spring comes spring cleaning, and the City of Wetaskiwin’s 2017 Community Clean Up kicks off May 13 and winds up May 22.

There are numerous ways residents and businesses can lend a hand to keep the community clean and welcoming.

The City of Wetaskiwin is encouraging those to get involved and have fun participating in Community Clean Up.

For the week of the cleanup the community landfill will be open for use free of charge. Extended hours of operation are in effect May 18, 19 and 20 for the landfill, which will run from 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. While the landfill will be open May 22 holiday Monday it is closed on Sundays.

The 2017 Community Clean Up also boasts an Adopt-A-Block program. With Adopt-A-Block family and friends can come together once a month to help keep areas of the city clean.

The program runs from May to October; call 780-361-4425 to register. Each group will receive a supply of garbage bags and gloves. Their efforts will also be recognized on the City of Wetaskiwin website.

Held each year in conjunction with the Community Clean Up is the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Round Up. Residents are encouraged to bring any household hazardous waste to the Recycling Centre for safe, free, disposal.

The round up is for residents only and hazardous waste from businesses will not be accepted.

Items accepted during the round up include: antifreeze, solvents, ant and weed killers, paint and paint thinner, brake fluid, batteries, glues, cements.

For those participating in the 2017 Community Clean Up, the City of Wetaskiwin reminds people to stay watchful and safe, and have fun. A list of safety tips are available on the city’s website:
