Wastewater opponents costing taxpayers thousands

Dear editor,

I read with some frustration your recent article entitled “Pigeon Lake group says wastewater plan flawed.”

That group has agitated for more than a year against the proposed system and in so doing has cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. I have attended many of the council meetings during that period and I have heard nothing but criticism and complaints from them.

If a gravity system is not feasible - and engineers say it isn’t - their only alternative is the status quo.

I believe that their concerns have been fairly heard and honestly considered by several south lake councils. In fact one community paid for several engineering studies, all of which arrived at the same conclusion. Our councils have now spent many hours, overworked staff, paid for duplicate studies, responded to petitions and offered a community review committee, all of which cost we the taxpayers significant amounts.

The decisions have been made and the project is underway, yet “Lake Wise” continues to criticize, petition and stop residents on the street. All of this only serves to divide the communities.

Why couldn’t we have just worked together with constructive suggestions? Unfortunately, it is too late for that now, but it is time for everyone to move on to allow our community divisions to heal.

Please neighbours, let it go!

Eldon Heck, Crystal Springs
