Wet forests do not burn

A common sense approach to fire prevention strategy

Dear editor,

This letter will show how to prevent losses of cities to wild fires.

If there was a ring of irrigated forest surrounding each community, this green wet area would resist the spread of fires to the enclosed communities.

Fort McMurray has a river running through their community. This water could be pumped through irrigation pipes with small holes at regular intervals to keep the forest lush and green. This irrigation does not need to happen in wet years.

Wet forests do not burn.

Yours truly,

Clark Lysne, County of Wetaskiwin
