Grandma’s Goodies

Swedish Nuts

Note: would suggest the larger amount of nuts be best, so this would not be too rich.


1/2 – 1 lb blanched almonds

1/2 – 1 lb walnuts or pecans (may be mixed)

Dash of salt

1 cup of white sugar

2 egg whites

1/2 cup butter


Toast Nuts in oven at about 300 to 325° for about 30 minutes, just until lightly browned. Pecans tend to brown quicker so you may wish to put them in a little later. Beat egg whites. Add sugar and salt. It should be like meringue. Fold nuts in.

Melt butter in pan. Spread nut mixture over pan and bake for about 30 minutes at 325°. Stir about three times, every 10 minutes. All nuts should be coded and the butter should have disappeared. Especially good for a Christmas get together or to use in a fancy jar for a gift or just because you like them.
