Why 4H is Great

Pipestone Flyer

The Lakedell 4H Lighthorse Club started their season with our first meeting on the first of October and clinics on October 13 and 26.

We are excited because we didn’t sit still during summertime. Members were going to camps and had their time off from club time, but that wasn’t for long. We participated in the “Why 4 H is great” competition to win a Gord Bamford concert. Gord Bamford and ATB Financial partnered together in the “Why 4-H is Great” contest for 4H clubs to compete for an opportunity to host a community concert with Gord Bamford. During the summer time Lakedell 4H Lighthorse  Club members gathered together with their horses to make a video, telling and explaining why 4-H is a great thing to be participating in. The video went on Facebook and YouTube; our task was to gather as many people to view and hopefully “like” on our Facebook video. Everybody got involved. Friends and family were encouraged to view and vote. We even went to the farmers’ market at Lakedell to get people to view and vote. We had set up the whole computer system, so they could view and vote on the spot. Even members went to events in Edmonton and other places to explain why 4-H is great and get people to view and vote. We thank everybody who got involved in voting for our club. And it worked. It was a close call, but we were happy to say that we won this contest by just one vote. The Gord Bamford concert will be held at the Lakedell Agricultural Complex on November 15th, 2012.

There is not much time left to get your tickets. Tickets will be $25.00 each and can be purchased with cash or cheques payable to ATB Financial. If you want to buy tickets they are available through Lakedell 4-H Lighthorse  Club members, Backstreet Antiques, Lakedell Agricultural Society, and ATB Financial in Westerose, Wetaskiwin, Winfield, Breton, Rimbey, Thorsby, and Ponoka. If you want to make a credit card purchase please call the 4-H Foundation of Alberta at 780-682-2153.

Doors open to the public at 6:30 pm. There will be a concession available, which is hosted by the Lakedell 4-H Beef Club. The evening will begin at 7:15 pm. With presentations and greetings from ATB Financial and the Alberta 4-H Foundation.  At this event there will be a couch raffle, meaning that one very lucky winner and three friends will have a comfy front row seat at the concert, not only will you be enjoying the show but you will also have refreshments and snacks available to you. So purchase your tickets for the couch raffle! We will also be hosting a live auction at this time. Get your bidding hand up to win a group of healthy, strong, rural 4-H members who will come and work for you for a day.

At 7:30, there will be opening acts by the duo Morgan McAloon and Chelsea Heaslip , and Quincy Jones, all 4-Hers. These two acts will hit up the stage before Gord Bamford. These two musical performances were crowned the opening act for the Gord Bamford concert by winning the auditions in early August.

Then, be prepared to sit back and listen to the amazing music of Gord Bamford, who is a true country boy, a devoted family man, a 4-H supporter and a very successful, multi-award winning Canadian Country Music Artist. Gord was honoured with an incredible 6 nominations for the 2012 CCMA Award Show; Gord was also rewarded this year’s best song writer of the year as well as Interactive Artist of the year.

Thank you,  ATB Financial and Gord Bamford, for your great support throughout the “Why 4-H is Great” contest.
