The majority of Central Alberta is under an extreme cold warning Sunday night and heading into Monday morning.
Environment Canada sent the warning out Sunday afternoon, saying a period of very cold wind chills is expected. In. Red Deer Sunday, the wind chill was minus 22 in the evening and expected to be minus 43 overnight.
Across Central Alberta, Environment Canada says extremely cold wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 45 are expected to develop overnight Sunday. Wind chill values are expected to moderate by Monday afternoon.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
