A wind tower nacelle and rotor assembly have fallen in the Halkirk 2 Wind Project.

On the morning of Nov. 8, 2024, images began working their way across social media reportedly showing that a wind tower in the Halkirk 2 Wind Project had come down.

Katherine Perron, Capital Power's media relations and communications manager, confirmed that an incident had occurred on Nov. 12.

"At approximately 7:22 am MT on November 8, 2024, an incident occurred at the Capital Power Halkirk 2 Wind Facility in Paintearth County, AB," said Perron, in an email statement.

Perron reports that the nacelle and rotor from turbine T33 in the project fell from the tower, with no injuries or property damage reported.

In response to the incident, Capital Power has instituted a site-wide safety stand-down; the remaining turbines have been secured and access to the sites is being restricted while the incident is investigated.

Construction activities on the project are nearing completion and some of the turbines were actively generating electricity as part of testing prior to commissioning.
