Dear Editor,

With all the negative press being reported on our various first responders I felt obligated to share a personal experience I have had with the Wetaskiwin RCMP.

My mother-in-law is pushing 90. She has been experiencing issues that develop as a result of longevity. In her mind she has been robbed, her well poisoned and her garage used as a front for drug dealers.

She has contacted the Wetaskiwin RCMP many times over the past few weeks, reporting the many different issues. It seems that one particular member Cst. Pater was always the one to respond to her complaints. Neither my wife nor I have met this RCMP officer but my wife has spoken to him on the phone several times.

This police officer has demonstrated the most incredible patience, kindness, understanding and professionalism — way beyond the call of duty and our heartfelt thanks go out to him and the rest of the detachment for their handling of this situation.

We know their hands are tied in how they can respond to situations like this and it takes a special kind of person to handle it the way they have.

So again, thank you to Cst. Pater and the Wetaskiwin RCMP.

Bill K., Leduc
