Active COVID-19 cases drop in County of Wetaskiwin; one additional death reported

The most recent provincial update reported an additional death in the County of Wetaskiwin.

Active COVID-19 cases continue to drop in the County of Wetaskiwin, as the current active cases sit at 12. However, the most recent update from the Government of Alberta reported one additional COVID-19 death in the County, bringing the areas total virus deaths to three.

The City of Wetaskiwin, separated from the County on the Government of Alberta’s COVID-19 aggregate data map, is down to 31 active cases.

As of the most recent provincial update, Maskwacis Health Services is reporting 41 total active cases in Maskwacis.

Only one school in the City of Wetaskiwin, Sacred Heart School, remains under a COVID-19 alert with two to four active cases.

Current outbreaks in the Wetaskiwin area include Peace Hills Lodge, Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin, and Points West Living.

On June 2, the province had a jump in numbers with 410 reported active cases on Wednesday following the completion of 8,315 COVID-19 tests. However, Alberta’s positivity rate is still at five per cent.

The Central zone has 788 active cases of the virus, including 53 people in hospital and 11 in the ICU.
