A free event tailored to local farmers and agricultural producers is being held in Winfield on Nov. 21.
The 2024 Ag Forum, organized by the County of Wetaskiwin's ag service board and JEDI, the county's economic development organization, will be hosted at the Winfield Agricultural Society Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Attendees will hear from top experts on agricultural issues such as economic forecasts, online business promotion, weed management, and the challenges of farm succession.
The Leduc, Nisku, and Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber of Commerce will also provide a presentation on chamber benefits and services along with an update on the Discover Wetaskiwin West joint tourism initiative.
Additionally, a panel of producers will discuss sustainable farming and environmental stewardship through the ALUS program.
"The primary objectives of the event are twofold: first, to enhance the operational business value for the local farmers and agricultural businesses in the region, and second, to foster greater understanding and engagement between JEDI and the agricultural stakeholders in the area," said JEDI economic development officer Carla Thompson.
The annual event began in 2016.
Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with speakers beginning at 10 a.m. and going until 4 p.m. The format is speakers with question and answer periods as well as a panel discussion with a few information booths. There won't be any break-out sessions.
Lunch will be catered buffet style by Buck Lake Mercantil and Cafe.
Registration is required and is open until Nov. 14. To register, visit county.wetaskiwin.ab.ca or call 780-361-6232.
