Anti-mask mandate protesters set up just west of Pigeon Lake Regional School, adjacent to the school’s parking lot, at noon on Friday Feb. 4, 2022.

The protest had a small showing from students and parents who disagree with the current provincial masking policy which requires Alberta students Grades 3 and up to wear masks in school classrooms.

Approximately 20 individuals stood alongside their parked vehicles waving Canadian flags and posters saying ‘freedom over fear’, and ‘unmask our kids’ amongst other slogans calling for mask mandates to be lifted.

In a Facebook event created for the protest, ‘School Walkout at Falun, AB’ a post states that the protest is spurred by other Alberta school walkouts and is accredited to a Grade 10 student from Drayton Valley, Alta., for coming up with the idea.

The protest was scheduled to last from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
