Battle Lake Ladies Group celebrates 90th anniversary

There have been around 100 members of the group since it began in1934

The Battle Lake Ladies Group (BLLG) celebrated their 90th anniversary on Sept. 18 at the Peaceful Valley Recreation Area.
In attendance were the 17 current and past members.

There have been around 100 members of the group since it began in1934.

A prayer was offered by the facility host and retired Seventh-day Adventist pastor John Gilbert.

Olga Reid, the oldest serving member and historian for the group, cut a 'Happy 90th Anniversary' cake.

During the discussions county councillor Ken Adair, who attended with his wife Cheryl, shared that the BLLG catered their wedding meal 43 years ago as his mother, Adelle, was a BLL for many years.

The club does service work for the community. For years, they created the fishing pond for children at the Lakedell Fair, one of Alberta’s largest fall county fairs.

The group offers local catering for funeral services. All money raised is given back to local groups, including Peaceful Valley and Wetaskiwin health care.

The group said the ladies really appreciate being able to use the Peaceful Valley facility, as its open to Albertan seniors and people with disabilities, annually for their fall potluck with their spouses.

"The fall colours were showing and people got a tour on a quad around the facility to complete a special fall day," said BLL Linda Kerr.
