Calmar man faces drug trafficking charges

With the assistance of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT), in July 2022 the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit began a drug investigation in the area of Calmar, Alta.

On July 28, RCMP members executed a search warrant at a Calmar residence in the area of 47 Street and 49 Ave. The search which included a vehicle, resulted in the seizure of approximately 35 grams of cocaine, 64 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of fentanyl, a quantity of Canadian Currency and several digital scales along with drug packaging.

“Leduc RCMP is committed to targeting those responsible for supplying methamphetamine and other illicit drugs to the community,” says Cpl. Fred De Billy. “The seizure of these drugs from the streets will undoubtedly save lives.”

Elton Daniel Widney, 38, of Calamar has been charged with:

• Trafficking in a controlled substance- methamphetamine x5;

• Possession for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine;

• And possession of proceeds of crime x6.

Following a judicial hearing Widney was released on conditions to appear in Leduc provincial court on Aug. 11, 2022.
