City of Wetaskiwin schedules virtual open houses for public budget consultation

City of Wetaskiwin Council approved an updated budget consultation plan at the regular Jan. 10, 2022, city council meeting. Public budget consultations were transitioned to be virtual-only open houses rather than town hall style as previously planned due to the recent increase in local and regional COVID-19 cases.

City of Wetaskiwin Council approved an updated budget consultation plan at the regular Jan. 10, 2022, city council meeting. Public budget consultations were transitioned to be virtual-only open houses rather than town hall style as previously planned due to the recent increase in local and regional COVID-19 cases.

“I invite any interested community members to take part in one of the upcoming virtual budget open houses to learn more about the proposed 2022 municipal budget as well as share your feedback,” stated Mayor Tyler Gandam.

The approved 2022 municipal budget open house schedule for meetings to be held over zoom include:

• 24/7 access to the virtual budgeting tool at Wetaskiwin.ca/budget for the public to review budget areas and provide feedback from Jan. 17 to 31, 2022.

• Virtual budget open house held over Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2022.

• Virtual budget open house held over Zoom from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2022.

Budget presentations and council deliberations at city hall are set to take place Feb. 8, 9, and 10, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

Feb. 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. is the anticipated date for the approval of the 2022 municipal budget.

The City of Wetaskiwin states that the municipal budget is the most important policy document approved by city council.

“It is developed and approved annually to finance the delivery of programs and services to the community according to [c]ouncil-specified service levels,” the city states on their website.

“Preparation of the corporate budget is one of the most critical initiatives undertaken by Administration as it acts as the fiscal plan that provides the resources required to make progress towards achieving Wetaskiwin’s Fifty-Year Community Vision and Council’s strategic priorities.”
