The County of Wetaskiwin's new Land Use Bylaw (LUB) draft is now available for public review and feedback.
The LUB is the regulatory framework that guides how land is developed and used within the county.
"Over the past year, the county has gathered input through surveys, workshops, and open houses to understand community needs and potential changes to the Land Use Bylaw," stated a press release.
Feedback has been summarized in the "What We Heard Report," available on the county's LUB review web page.
“Our biggest project this year has been the update to our Land Use Bylaw,” said Reeve Josh Bishop. “We toured the county and held open houses to gather your feedback, which has played a key role in shaping the draft bylaw."
The draft is now available for review online.
"This is your chance to let us know if we have struck the right balance," said Bishop.
"We have worked to simplify regulations while protecting the rights and quality of life for everyone in our community.”
Key proposed changes include:
• District simplification: Reducing the number of land use districts from over 30 to 10.
• Additional dwelling units: Allowing up to two dwellings per lot.
• Recreational units: Streamlining regulations for storage and use on private property.
• Home-based businesses: Reducing the number of categories and easing permit requirements for minor home occupations.
• Clearer decision criteria: Adding evaluation guidelines for discretionary uses and variances.
Initial public input on the draft LUB will be accepted until Nov. 13. The feedback will be reviewed by the project team and any recommended changes will be presented to council at their meeting on Nov. 26.
At the meeting council will consider setting a date for a public hearing, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 17.
