A pre-trial conference is coming up for Ian Lawrence Saddleback who stands accused of second degree murder for the fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old male resident of Maskwacis.
Saddleback, 42, is scheduled to appear at the Wetaskiwin courthouse on Oct. 11, 2024.
A pre-trial arraignment was held on June 11, following a two-day preliminary hearing in May.
On June 3, 2023, Maskwacis RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in Samson Cree Nation.
The victim, Gerald Arthur Junior Saddleback, had sustained serious injuries and was declared deceased when EMS arrived.
Attempted murder trial
It will be almost a year before Jesse James Cabry of Maskwacis, 31, will stand trial for attempted murder while using a firearm and pointing a firearm.
In the early hours on March 2, 2022, Cabry allegedly shot a 17-year-old victim in the Samson Cree Nation townsite.
The wounded male was rushed to hospital and recovered from his injuries.
Cabry’s trial is scheduled for April 14 to 16, 2025, in Wetaskiwin.
