The Diva Quilting Club donated $1,200 to the Wetaskiwin Art and Craft Centre (WACC) during their annual general meeting this month.

Proceeds for the donation came from the third annual Diva Quilt Show and Sale held at WAACC on April 27, 2024.

Transforming the studio into a textile extravaganza, more than 50 quilts and hangings were on display, accompanied by textile and quilting demonstrations plus vendors with complimentary wares for sale.

Last year the seven-member group met only 15 to 18 times at the WAACC studio, completing their own projects and working together to create a generous queen-size quilt, valued at $1,500, for raffle.

Now the group is growing in numbers and plans to meet more frequently for the 2024-25 season.

Inspired by a Quilt of Valour (supporting injured Canadian Armed Forces members) gifting at the Wetaskiwin legion in February 2024, the group decided to adopt this theme.

Approximately 380 Alberta veterans are waiting to receive their own quilt and the Divas want to narrow that number by at least eight by donating their work to Quilts of Valour - Canada.

A representative of the organization will be present on April 26, 2025 for the fourth annual Diva Quilt Show and Sale to talk about the program and receive the donation.
