UPDATE: Breton RCMP locate missing Buck Lake boater

RCMP and Fire Services are continuing their search for a boater reported missing Oct. 5, 2021.

UPDATE — On Oct. 10, 2021, Breton RCMP and the Central Alberta Recovery Dive Society (CARDS) team located and recovered the missing boater.

Police have been in contact with the missing boater’s, a83-year-old male of Winfield, Alta., next of kin.

Breton RCMP continue to investigate in coordination with the Chief Medical Examiner’s office.

Original Story — At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 5, 2021, Breton RCMP received a report of a boat anchored in the water with a missing elderly male boater.

Breton RCMP attended the scene and a boat search was conducted on the water with the assistance of Wetaskiwin RCMP, Wetaskiwin County Fire Services, South Pigeon Lake Fire Services, and Drayton Valley Search and Rescue.

Thorsby and Breton RCMP also conducted ground searches.

On October 6, Breton and Thorsby RCMP, with the assistance of the Central Alberta Recovery Dive Society (CARDS) team, continue to search for the missing boater.

RCMP are asking anyone on Buck Lake in the search area to remain clear to allow RCMP and emergency services to work. They are also asking locals to keep an eye out for signs of the missing boater.

If anyone believes they have seen the boat or the male occupant of the boat between Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, please contact Breton RCMP at 780-696-3502.
