Hello everyone. I hope that you are all enjoying the fall weather over there. As some of you may know, a delegation from the Town of Ashoro visited the City of Wetaskiwin from Sept. 13 to 17. Throughout our stay in Wetaskiwin, we met so many amazing people and had plenty of fun experiences.
Many host families generously opened up their homes to host our students, and I have heard nothing but positive stories from the kids. Everyone had such an amazing time that during our bus ride from Wetaskiwin to Banff, everyone kept saying that they wanted to go home, home being their host family’s house in Wetaskiwin.
Amongst many other fun experiences, one that seem to have stood out the most for our kids was spending a whole school day at the Wetaskiwin Composite High School. Our students were given the opportunity to experience what a day is like in the life of a typical high school student attending the Wetaskiwin Composite High School.
Through the help of principal Karen Elgert and the staff of WCHS, we were able to make this day a huge success. Seeing how nervous and shy our students were during that morning that day made me slightly worried about how things would go. But I was pleasantly surprised to see how close our students and the WCHS students became at the end of the school day. All of the students sat together at the cafeteria chatting, laughing, and even singing.
Seeing all of the students enjoying their time together and working alongside one another was quite the sight to see. Once again, I want to say a huge thank you to principal Karen Elgert, the staff of WCHS, and all of our student volunteers in making our day at the high school a huge success. Thank you all so very much!
And of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the Wetaskiwin Ashoro Friendship Society. A huge shout out to the following: Esther and Cory Adey, Doreen and Greg Felske, Jayne Pettifor, Barb Johnson, Caroline Dillabough, Janice Lockhart, Angela Greenidge Yoshiko Jackson, and to the many others who contributed so much of their time and effort into preparing for our visit. I would also like to thank the staff of Parkdale School for generously allowing us to use their facilities. On behalf of the Town of Ashoro, thank you all very much!
This year’s visit to Wetaskiwin was truly an amazing experience and I am sure that our students and chaperones will treasure the memories they made for a long time. Again, to all of our amazing host families, the staff of WCHS, Parkdale School, and the Wetaskiwin Ashoro Friendship Society, thank you all for everything that you did for us.
Although our time together was short, the memories that we made will remain forever. We hope to see you all again next year. Thank you!
