A Wetaskiwin man convicted of sexual offences against minors has served his time, but RCMP can't confirm if he is living in the community again.
The National Sex Offender Registry is managed by the RCMP but the information is not public. It can only be accessed by Canadian police agencies and the information is protected under the Privacy Act.
"Police agencies can’t share information regarding sex offenders such as addresses," said Cpl. Guillaume Lamoureux, Alberta RCMP Media Group.
"In order words, the RCMP manages the National Sex Offender Registry but doesn't create the laws that protects sex offenders."
Edward Leonard Wolf was sentenced on May 18, 2022 to two years and seven months in jail for two counts of obtaining sexual services for consideration from person under 18 years.
Five other counts, including sexual contact with a child, sexual assault, sexual contact, and luring a child under the age of 16, were withdrawn.
Alberta Justice Court and Justice Services said they didn't have information about how much time Wolf served.
In April 2018, Wetaskiwin RCMP said an investigation determined three youths had been the victims of child exploitation.
The RCMP arrested a 47-year-old man, although he his identity was not released.
The man was charged with several sexual-related charges including sexual interference, sexual assault, obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 and luring a child.
The investigation began in March due to a concern for a missing youth. Police determined there had been three female youth victims.
The offences were alleged to have taken place between Dec. 1, 2017 and March 30, 2018.
"If a member of the public is concerned about a sex offender in their area or a victim is contacted by a convicted sex offender, they should call their local police agency," said Lamoureux.
