Leduc RCMP arrest repeat offender in catalytic converter theft investigations

Leduc RCMP have arrested and charged a repeat offender in relation to catalytic converter theft investigations. Garrett John Faryna, 30, a resident of Leduc faces 13 Criminal Code charges in relation to two incidents involving catalytic converter thefts.

Leduc RCMP have arrested and charged a repeat offender in relation to catalytic converter theft investigations. Garrett John Faryna, 30, a resident of Leduc faces 13 Criminal Code charges in relation to two incidents involving catalytic converter thefts.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. on March 6, 2023, Leduc RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious male cutting a catalytic converter off a vehicle in Leduc’s Corinthia neighbourhood. A witness confronted the male who then fled the area on foot.

Once on scene officers located and arrested Faryna.

A search in connection to his arrest resulted in the seizure of reciprocating saw blades and grinder, tools, and brass knuckles.

Following further investigation RCMP connected Faryna to an incident on Feb. 27, 2023, where Leduc RCMP received a report of an unknown man attempting to cut a catalytic converter off a vehicle in the area of 48A Street and 47 Ave in Leduc.

As a result of these events Faryna has been charged with:

• Mischief under $5,000 (x2)

• Theft from vehicle under $5,000 (x2)

• Unauthorized possession of a weapon

• Failure to comply with undertaking condition (x4)

• Failure to comply with release order condition (x4)

Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court on March 23, 2023.
