UPDATE: Suspect faces charges for weekend stabbing in Leduc, Alta.

UPDATE — Leduc RCMP have arrested Brian Austin Wurtz and Wurtz has been charged with the following offences: Aggravated assault; Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Failure to comply with probation order; Failure to comply with recognizance.

UPDATE — Leduc RCMP have arrested Brian Austin Wurtz and Wurtz has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated assault;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Failure to comply with probation order;
  • Failure to comply with recognizance.

Following a judicial hearing Wurtz was remanded into custody to appear in Leduc provincial court on March 31, 2022.

Original Story — At approximately 3:00 a.m. on March 19, 2022, Leduc RCMP were dispatched to a stabbing in the area of 52 street and 45 Ave in Leduc, Alta.

Upon arrival on scene, police discovered that a male had been stabbed once; the victim was then transported to hospital in serious condition and has since been released.

Leduc RCMP are still searching for the male suspect, 23-year-old Brian Austin Wurtz of Calmar, Alta., who fled the scene. Wurtz is currently wanted for one count of aggravated assault and one count of failure to comply with a probation order.

Wurtz is described as:

• Light complexion;

• Five-foot-seven-inches to five-foot-eight-inches tall;

• 143 lbs;

• Brown hair and brown eyes.

Leduc RCMP General Investigation has taken over carriage of the investigation. So far Leduc RCMP’s efforts to locate Wurtz have been unsuccessful and they are seeking public assistance.
