Man facing attempted murder charge for shooting of 15-year-old in Louis Bull

Attempted murder with a restricted firearm carries a minimum sentence of five years for a first offence

The court case is proceeding against the man charged with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old in Louis Bull First Nation in August.

Kashton Fearious Bull, 24, has been charged with attempted murder with a certain firearm, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, careless use/storage of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

Under section 239 (1)(A) of the Canadian Criminal Code, the use of a restricted firearm in the comission of an attempted murder carries a minimum sentence of five years for a first offence, or seven years for subsequent offences, if convicted.

The same sentence applies if an offender is convicted of attempted murder for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a criminal organization (laws-lois.justice.gc.ca).

Bull was scheduled to speak to the court on Oct. 22 but the matter was adjourned.

He is set to enter his election and plea on Nov. 5, 2024, at the Wetaskiwin Court of Justice.

On Aug. 7, Maskwacis RCMP responded to a shooting in front of a residence in Louis Bull.

Emergency workers tended to a teenager that had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was flown to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

A second victim had been hit by a car and had minor injuries. They were treated and later released.

Tips from the public identified a suspect and Bull was arrested at a Sherwood Park hotel room on Aug. 8.

While executing a search warrant on the room, police reported they located a semi-automatic rifle.
