UPDATE —
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has issued an arrest warrant in connection with the death of Landy Shirt who was located in a Lac la Biche apartment on Dec. 2020, 2021.
Lorne Cardinal, 25, of Lac La Biche, Alta., is wanted for first degree murder.
Police are cautioning the public that this individual should be considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach this wanted individual and contact police if he is seen.
Original Story — Earlier this month on Dec. 8, 2021, Maskwacis RCMP responded to a call from the family of Landy Shirt, 31, reporting him missing. RCMP learned that his family last saw Shirt on Dec. 3, 2021, in Maskwacis and investigators further learned that he had been to Goodfish Lake and Lac La Biche after December 6.
RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the carriage of Shirt’s missing person’s investigation and had previously requested the public’s assistance to help locate Shirt.
On Dec. 18, 2021, Lac La Biche RCMP located a deceased man inside an apartment building at 10310 102 Ave in Lac La Biche, Alta.
The deceased was identified as Shirt. The circumstances surrounding his death are believed to be suspicious and an autopsy is scheduled for the Edmonton office of the chief medical examiner on Dec. 22, 2021.
RCMP say no further information will be provided until after the autopsy, however, anyone with information on the circumstances that led to Shirt’s death is asked to contact the Lac La Biche RCMP at 780-404-2500.
