At the regular July 19, 2021 Wetaskiwin City Council meeting, council approved a motion to add special ballots to Wetaskiwin’s now-updated Municipal Election Bylaw 1999-21.

Eligible voters for the City of Wetaskiwin 2021 Municipal Election can request a vote using a special ballot, also known as a mail-in ballot, if they are unable to vote at the advance vote or at a voting station on Election Day.

Eligible voters for the special ballot include individuals who are:

• Physically incapacitated (this includes anyone required to isolate due to COVID-19);

• Out of town and unable to physically visit the local poll stations;

• An election worker, candidate, official agent or scrutineer located at a voting station other than the one for their designated place of residence.

The advance vote is set to take place Oct. 13, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Election Day is Oct. 18, 2021.

Special ballot packages—including senate and referendum ballots—will be printed following the release of the official list of election candidates on Sept. 21, 2021.

Applications for special ballots for the municipal election are to be submitted between Oct. 1, 2021 and Oct.16, 2021, no later than 4:00 p.m.

A special ballot package can be requested by calling the City of Wetaskiwin Elections Office at 780-361-4409 or by emailing
