The County of Wetaskiwin held an open house on May 8, sharing information about projects and services as well as free food.
Bay 3 at the administration building on Highway 13 was full of people enjoying smokies, burgers served up by the county, as well as pop, chips, and pie.
In the first hour, there had already been a steady stream of people coming through, said Naomi Finseth, manager of communications and strategic initiatives for the county.
There were information booths from Public Works on 2025 road construction projects and the enhanced grading program, as well information about identifying invasive weeds and fire safety tips.
Dallas Vikse, acting director of Public Works, was on hand during the open house to greet citizens and answer questions.
Leduc-Wetaskiwin ALUS, Alberta Environmental Farm Plan and the county's economic development arm JEDI (Joint Economic Development Initiative) had booths as well.
People who came through could ask questions of county staff, grab a bag of popcorn and then head over to the barbecue.
There was also face painting and glitter tattoos for the kiddos and a chance to check out a fire engine and police vehicles.
Meat for the barbecue was supplied by Pine Haven.
