Thrills and chills were had at the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation (WHF) Zombie Hospital Haunted House, held at the Wetaskiwin Mall on Oct. 18, 19, 25, 26 and 27.
Attendees took a truly frightening journey through the 'haunted hospital,' with the 'undead' (students from the Wetaskiwin Composite High School drama club) from roaming the halls in search of their next victim.
"Community engagement was beyond what we expected with approximately 600 people having attended over the two weekends," said Brandy Pfeil, WHF communications specialist.
"Feedback was phenomenal," said Pfeil. "Everyone who came through immediately told us how much they enjoyed it, sent messages to friends and family encouraging them to attend, and lots went through multiple times."
There was a bake sale table and a couple of vendors, and some of the outlets in the mall were open during the haunted house as well.
In total, the event raised $5,000 for the foundation's Community Health Fund.
"This fund is used to support healthcare initiatives and programs within our community," Pfeil explained.
The whole space was set up over a span of about four to six weekends, as it took time to custom make some of the props that were used, said Pfeil.
"This was our very first haunted house, and we are already looking at how to make it happen again next year."
The WHF was founded in 1986 to assist with the building of a new hospital and long-term care facility.
To date, the foundation has raised over $20 million to enhance health care at the hospital and in the community.
