Wetaskiwin Fire Services now hiring paid-on-call firefighters

Wetaskiwin Fire Services held an open house at Station One on April 12, inviting the public to come and learn more about paid-on-call (POC) firefighting positions and enjoy some fun activities.

Kids enjoyed climbing into the engines, knocking down flames on a wooden play set with a fire hose, giving high-fives to Sparky the Fire Dog mascot and touring the fire house.

The department is currently accepting applications for POC firefighters and held the open house as a recruitment event.

They had a few inquiries during the open house, according to Fire Chief Amber Coleman.

"They came down specifically to ask about it," said Coleman.

POC Lt. Sara Martin, who organized the event, said they were pleased with the turnout, adding the kids loved the chocolate eggs and colouring books they were handing out.

The POC job posting will be open until May 31. For more information, visit wetaskiwin.ca/155/Wetaskiwin-Fire-Services.
