A Wetaskiwin dealership is out a significant amount of money after a suspect used a fraudulent bank draft to purchase two snowmobiles and a trailer.
The RCMP received a report of the theft on Jan. 6 and are investigating.
According to a press release, the dealership was approached by the buyer with what appeared to be a legitimate bank draft. After the transaction was complete, the victim discovered that the bank draft was counterfeit, leaving them without their snowmobiles and payment.
RCMP say the scam is concerning because of how realistic the bank draft appeared. RCMP stated they're actively pursing leads to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen snowmobiles.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set Caucasian make wearing a white shirt, dark jacket and blue jeans. He was driving a white Ford pickup truck.
The stolen snowmobiles are a black and tan Polaris 850 and an orange Polaris Patriot.
The trailer is a grey Marlon 400-006AL.
RCMP said they're aware of other similar cases in the Edmonton area, thought to involve the same suspect.
The Wetaskiwin RCMP is seeking assistance in identifying these suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wetaskiwin RCMP at 780-312-7200 or your local police.
