Thorsby RCMP called to plane crash this weekend

Thorsby RCMP located two deceased occupants in the plane.

In the afternoon of Saturday Sept. 26, 2020 Thorsby RCMP were called to the scene of a plane crash in Leduc County. Thorsby RCMP were alerted about a Harmon Rocket plane that crashed onto a field near Township Road 504 and Range Road 21, where the plane then caught fire.

At the scene Thorsby RCMP located two deceased occupants in the plane.

Thorsby RCMP with the assistance of the Leduc County Fire department held the scene pending the arrival of the Transportation Safety Board who will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Further investigation following the crash indicated that the plane was travelling from Rocky Mountain House, Alta., before the crash with two occupants. The occupants, a 59-year-old male who was piloting the plane and a 48-year-old female passenger were both from Rocky Mountain house.
