Trial dates have now been scheduled for three people accused of a brutal kidnapping in Samson Cree Nation earlier this year.
On Feb. 27, 2025, police and EMS were called to a residence on the First Nation to assist with a male with a gunshot wound.
The male alleged he had been kidnapped, held for days, beaten and tied to a chair in a basement.
Maskwacis RCMP arrested three suspects, all residents of Samson Cree Nation, with the aid of a helicopter and police dog services.
Three search warrants in the area were carried out and the firearm suspected of being used in the offence was recovered.
Clarence William Northwest, 36, is facing 18 charges including kidnapping with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, flight from a police officer, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized.
Chevez Louis, 19, has been charged with 28 offences, including kidnapping with a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm and several probation violations.
There are 22 counts against Soosay, 25, including kidnapping with a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
According to information provided by the court system, all the alleged offences occurred on Feb. 24, 2025.
Soosay's trial has been set for next month, July 28, 2025, at the Wetaskiwin Court of Justice.
Northwest and Louis are scheduled for trial from Dec. 18 to 19, 2025, in Wetaskiwin.
