Two wooden playground structures in Ponoka have been marked for removal later this month because they have been determined to be too old and “at the end of their life cycle.”
The two play structures are Lucas Heights at 5402 55 St. and Central Park at 52 St. and 54 Ave.
A press release from the Town of Ponoka dated July 19 states that, “a professional third-party assessment that has deemed the play structures at both locations to have reached the end of their life cycle.”
There are no immediate plans to replace the play structures with new equipment. According to the release, once the structure are removed, both sites will be reinstated to grass.
However, the town says that a design process has been started under the Town of Ponoka Parks Improvement Plan to identify new, future options for park spaces in Ponoka.
Future improvements may also be considered for Lucas Heights park and Central Park, but the process will include a review of the town’s priorities for the development of park spaces.
The Town of Ponoka Recreation, Park and Culture Advisory Committee will also provide input on any proposed improvements, and the town will need to work with design professionals to develop park concepts for consideration.
