The highly popular West of the Fifth Poker Run saw record breaking participation numbers again this year. With both a Friday night pre-event dinner and dance to the Saturday poker run itself the community and Albertans from far and wide showed up to join in on the local fundraiser.

The grand total raised before expenses came to $100,241.75 this year.

After expenses the money will be split into:

• $14,561.95 for each of the schools supported in the fundraiser – Lakedell, Pipestone, Falun and Pigeon Lake Regional.

• $4,108 for the Pigeon Lake Regional School Parent Grad Committee.

• $11,023.01 which will be distributed between the South Pigeon Lake Fire Department, Mulhurst Fire Department, Lakedell preschool and a few other local community organizations.

Head organizers of the event, Corey and Claudia Kozack, are thrilled with the outcome and are excited to see what next year’s winter poker run will bring.

“I know I keep saying this, but we honestly believe this — we live in an amazing community and we are so fortunate,” Corey stated in a post on the official “West of the 5th Winter Poker Run” Facebook page.

Next year’s poker run will take place the last weekend of February 2024.
