Wetaskiwin and District Victim Services celebrated their 25th anniversary on April 12, 2022.

Wetaskiwin and District Victim Services is a program that works with victims of crime and tragedy until the end of the criminal justice system. They advocate for the rights of victims of crime and trauma in addition to providing assistance to both primary victims and others affected by a crime including witnesses, family and friends.

“25 years is absolutely amazing,” City of Wetaskiwin Mayor Tyler Gandam said at the anniversary dinner held at the Best Western Wayside Inn in Wetaskiwin, Alta.

“I have had the opportunity in my other life working funeral service to actually work and see first hand some of the work that your advocates do with families who have lost somebody and it is absolutely necessary, priceless, and the community owes you all a world of thanks.”

RCMP Cpl. Kevin Krebs also spoke at the anniversary. Krebs said, “when I’ve been at tragedies and we hand it off, it is a huge relief to our members.”

He says that knowing families are in capable, empathetic hands that can focus their sole attention on them in the moment of need helps everyone involved.

After his speech Krebs presented a print to celebrate the 25th anniversary on behalf of the RCMP and Victim Services of Alberta to the Wetaskiwin and District Victim Services.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I know the RCMP does,” says Krebs.
