For the second year in a row, the staff at Wetaskiwin's A&W location have chosen to donate the proceeds of their holiday season 'round up' fundraiser to the Wetaskiwin Salvation Army's food bank.

The campaign started on Nov. 19 and will run until Dec. 31.

Customers, whether they come through the drive-thru or dining room, are asked if they'd like to donate by rounding up the price of their order to the nearest dollar.

"Some give more," said manager Colleen Kruger.

As of Dec. 12, the round up had raised about $700.

Last year, the campaign brought in almost $3,000 for the food bank.

With money being tighter for a lot of folks right now, she just hopes they'll break $1,000 this year, said Kruger.

"(The food bank) is appreciative of anything they get, really," she said.

Over the years the restaurant has engaged in community giving in several ways. The staff discuss it and chose which charity they want to support each time they hold a campaign, Kruger explained.

"It's all ins-tore promoted."

Needs are high at Christmastime so the staff again decided to support the food bank, Kruger said.

"They need that extra food on the shelves," she said.

In November, they held a round-up for Remembrance Day and the proceeds were donated to the legion.

The restaurant previously ran a campaign in support of Neighbours Outreach Wetaskiwin where backpacks filled with essential items for those in need were donated.

During the holiday season last year, they also made gift baskets which they sold and used the money to buy groceries for the food bank.

A cheque will be presented to the Wetaskiwin Salvation Army in the New Year.
