Wetaskiwin Chamber of Commerce is going back in time for this year's awards gala.

Set for Friday, April 11, the annual party is taking on a theme of "Solid Gold 70s" to tie the event together.

"Last year's Wetaskiwin Chamber Business Awards transported guests to Churchill Downs with a Kentucky Derby theme," said communications and marketing manager Nancy Peters. "Attendees embraced it with stunning hats and derby-inspired attire. This year we're going to step back in time with a groovy Solid Gold 70's theme.

"It's going to be a glamorous and funky evening celebrating and highlighting some of the many amazing Wetaskiwin Chamber businesses and business leaders."

A silent auction and three course meal will also be a part of the evening. Dinner includes baby romaine caesar salad with candy bacon, a six-ounce tenderloin steak with truffle red wine au jus, grilled asparagus and creamed parmesan mashed potato topped with micro greens. For dessert there will be tiramisu layer cake.

Proceeds from the evening go to support the chamber's initiatives, which includes both business supports for members and organizing events throughout the community. Among the events being organized this year are a talk on tariffs on March 21, sessions on running Quickbooks software and setting up a Google Business Profile and the annual Christmas Parade.

Cardboard cut-outs of two famous but yet to be named disco stars will be on hand for photo opportunities throughout the night.

"Dressing to the theme is entirely optional, and regardless of how attendees dress, it will be a lot of fun," said Peters. "We enjoy working with local not-for-profit and community groups for these events as well. We look forward to celebrating with our business community, having a great night, and getting into the spirit of the 70's!"

Tickets are $95 plus GST or $80 if you are a member of the chamber. Doors are at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Wayside Inn in Wetaskiwin.
