Aviation enthusiasts were able to get up close and personal with planes and pilots on July 10, 2021 at the 2021 Central Alberta Air Tour.

Wetaskiwin was the last stop on the tour and saw approximately 50 planes land at Wetaskiwin’s Airport, located next to the Reynolds-Alberta Museum.

The 2021 Central Alberta Air Tour set off this year to promote the importance of the aviation industry and how regional airports can play a role in Alberta’s economic recovery.

The tour is an initiative of Lac St.Anne-Parkland MLA Shane Getson, who is also a pilot and aircraft owner himself.

Growing up with a passion for aviation, Getson is focusing that personal interest and aiming to promote awareness of the aviation industry as an MLA speaking on behalf of the UCP’s economic recovery plan for Alberta.

Aviation has been identified as a key area of potential growth for the province.

The planes visited several communities on July 10 including Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, and Ponoka, before making their final stop in Wetaskiwin.
