Wetaskiwin resident Michael Joseph Trottier, 44, is facing multiple charges including two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, drug trafficking, possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property.
Trottier had a court date on Dec. 17, however the matter was adjourned and he is now scheduled for a bail hearing on Jan. 21.
The Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) completed a multi-day drug trafficking investigation on Dec. 10.
Over the course of several days, Wetaskiwin RCMP conducted a surveillance effort targeting suspected drug activity within the city.
The operation led to an arrest of Trottier, who allegedly resisted arrest when officers took him into custody.
During the investigation, a search warrant of Trottier’s vehicle and residence.
RCMP report they seized 36 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of crystal Meth, two firearms, drug paraphernalia and $2,200 in cash.
Flight from police
Jeff Edward Medd, a 40-year-old resident of Leduc County, and Corey Garrett Peers, a 35-year-old resident of Wainwright, Alta., are facing several charges including flight from police and possession of stolen property.
Medd pleaded not guilty on Nov. 28 and Peers pleaded not guilty on Dec. 12.
Both are scheduled to appear at the Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Jan. 16 to set a date.
The two men allegedly led police in a chase from Wetaskiwin to Red Deer County using stolen vehicles on Oct. 10, 2024.
Drug charges
Leduc resident Ali Mustafa Jomha, 52, has been charged with four counts of trafficking cocaine, two counts of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of GHB for the purpose of trafficking, producing GHB and possession of the proceeds of crime.
Jomha was set to appear in court in Leduc on Dec. 19, 2024 but the matter was adjourned. He is now scheduled to enter his election and plea on Jan. 23, 2025.
Gwynne shooting
Gwynne resident Brent Shawn Greenwall, 51, has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and a slew of other offences stemming from an incident on Aug. 21.
Court dates on Dec. 5 and 10, 2024, were adjourned and Greenwall is now scheduled to enter his election and plea on Jan. 28, 2025, at the Wetaskiwin Court of Justice.
On Aug. 22, 2024, a male was dropped off at the Wetaskiwin hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Offers investigating determined that the incident had occurred in the community of Gwynne.
After securing a search warrant, officers attended a Gwynne property on Aug. 23, 2024, seizing a handgun and ammunition.
During the execution of the search warrant, the occupant of the property allegedly became combative with police and was arrested.
Greenwall was initially charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm when unauthorized, and three counts of breaching a release order.
After further investigation and a second search warrant was executed, Greenwall was additionally charged with aggravated assault and several weapons-related offences, including unauthorized possession, pointing a firearm, and possession of a firearm in the commission of an offence.
Assault with a weapon
Jeral Maurice Thomas Rabbit, 25, of Montana First Nation is charged with assault with a weapon, two charges of possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and three charges of failing to comply with a release order.
He pleaded not guilty at the Ponoka Court of Justice on Dec. 6. The next court date is set for Jan. 16, 2025, in Wetaskiwin.
On Nov. 18. Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person in a rural field who had been detained by a member of the public after allegedly throwing a knife at them.
