The Alberta Minorities Community Association (AMCA) is excited about its upcoming event, a family-friendly New Year's Eve party at the Wetaskiwin Ag Grounds on Dec. 31.
The event will be held at the main hall, located at 4214 72 Ave. (Highway 13) and include a dinner, door prizes, games and a live DJ and dance.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and a catered buffet dinner featuring western and global cuisine will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Some of the food will include dishes from India and the Philippines. There will also be a children's menu.
"It's an international dinner," said AMCA vice president Pastor Antonio Garcia.
There will be wine at the tables as well.
Family members of all ages are invited to eat, dance and play the night away. The event ends at 1 a.m.
Tickets will only be on sale until Dec. 20 and won't be available at the door.
They are $75 per adult and $25 per child (12 and under).
To purchase tickets, call Garcia at 780-362-2370.
Launched in October, 2024, AMCA's mission is to "protect and enhance the cultural, social, and general interests of all minorities not only in Wetaskiwin but in Alberta as well, ensuring their well-being."
The first major project they want to start is a centre for drop-in respite care for seniors
The centre will give caretakers of seniors a safe place to care for their loved ones so they are able to run errands or have a respite, said Garcia explained.
The estimated cost to start the senior drop-in program is $150,000, so that's their fundraising goal, he said.
The New Year's Eve party is the start of the association's fundraising.
"We want to remind everyone that membership is open to everyone," said Garcia, adding there is no membership fee and people of all nationalities are welcome.
Those who wish to donate to the association are also welcome to do so, he said.
